I inherited it!!

“History is hereditary only in this way; we, all of us, inherit everything, and then we choose what to cherish, what to disavow, and what to do next, which is why it’s worth trying to know where things come from.”
                                                               _ Jill Lepore

Tongue rolling, earlobe attachment, dimples, blood type......... some of the most common traits we know we inherit from our parents. Did you know that impulsivity and procrastination are also traits we inherit as well? I did not require a lab & gentlee gentlemen in white lab coats to figure this out, though further reading online has proved my theory correct!

I joined the same gym my parents are members. My mother has been a dormant member for that last 10.5 kgs her dear husband, my father, has lost. A myriad of reasons, very justifiable too she had to dish out. Since I joined the same gym I challenged her to start with me. Come the Monday we were set to start, I did not have a kit with me. I did my laundry late Sunday afternoon, and by morning I did not have a pair of dry gym tights to wear. She decided that because I did not have a kit, she wouldn't go! She had her kit with her, please note. Tuesday morning, I decided to be adventurous and try out a morning workout! Let's leave it at, I learnt a very expensive lesson! Cost me 2 working hours!!!! Again, she did not go because I decided to workout in the morning and she would rather an evening workout! Come Wednesday, I have an early meeting in Thika, but seeing as how I have kept my mum out of the gym with my choices, I carried my kit with me................. yeah, you guessed it right. She had yet another excuse, she wasn't ready psychologically and wanted to start on Monday! By Thursday I was too tired from being used as a scapegoat. Did not have the energy to work out, Friday through the weekend my body was going through a biological process that made exercise a dangerous affair ;-) so I did not workout.

Come the infamous Monday morning. I had my kit with me and dully informed my mother I was not going to be used as a scapegoat to fuel her procrastination! Apparently, the psychological preparation was complete and she actually intended on going to the gym!! Drum roll................ mama made it to the gym, finally! On Monday the 1st of September 2014. And now I know why she picked a Monday. I torched through 551 calories dancing to some deadly Kamba tunes, Kikuyu 'marebe', k-pop gangnam stly, I got to Salsa and Samba too! and actually surprised myself by remembering all the steps!!! Did I forget to mention Indian and Luhya dances as well! It was an absolute party in that studio!! Those absolutely, without a doubt, the best 551 calories I ever spent!

I am proud of mama. And I am hoping an praying that the DOMS will not keep her out of the gym in the ensuing days. An awesome Monday workout does not in anyway justify all the excuses she gave all week last week! The only thing they do is prove however, that there is indeed a source in my genetic-make up, that is responsible for my procrastinating ways!!!!

Thanks for dropping by.
